Mariachi band in El Paso, Texas

Founded in El Paso in 1994 by high school and University of Texas at El Paso students, Mariachi Alegre has grown into one of the region’s most recognized mariachi groups.

Today’s eleven-piece ensemble brings together professionals and university students with a repertoire spanning rancheras, boleros, danzones and huapangos—as well as bluegrass, tangos, and El Paso-style oldies.

The group has represented the Southwest at mariachi conferences in Las Cruces, Tucson, and Albuquerque, at Music Under the Stars, and at Disney World’s Festival Disney series.

Closer to home, Mariachi Alegre is part of El Paso’s live music fabric — playing weddings, parties, corporate gatherings, and community celebrations from the Lower Valley and Mission Trail to the Westside and downtown, and bringing live mariachi to Speaking Rock Entertainment Center every other week.
